2004 Advocacy Day

Advocacy Day scheduled for May 19

PRESS RELEASE

On May 19th NCWU is holding Women's Advocacy Day to focus attention on What's at Stake for NC Women in the short session. There will be a press conference held by Representative Verla Insko (District 56, Orange County) to highlight the main issues from the NCWU report cards released earlier this year. If you can get to Raleigh, plan to attend the press conference at 11:30 at the Legislative Building. If not, participate virtually by writing your legislators and cc'ing Rep. Insko (verlai@ncleg.net) and NCWU (advocacy@ncwu.org).

You can find the contact information for your legislators at the General Assembly representation lookup form (from www.ncga.state.nc.us).

Please review the details below and craft a letter addressing your issues, but if you are strapped for time, here's a sample letter.

Again, be sure to let Rep. Insko and NCWU know of your participation.

How to participate VIRTUALLY!

While we would like for those people who are able to come to Raleigh and participate in the Press Conference to do so, we know that this is only possible for a small number of North Carolinians. In an effort to make Women's Advocacy Day accessible to all those who wish to participate this year we have added a virtual component.

We are asking those people who will not be able to make the trip to call, e-mail or fax their local legislators in support of these issues. Please also send a copy to Verla Insko, verlai@ncleg.net before 11:00 a.m. May 19 so she can mention the overwhelming participation of women across the state!

Please plan to "attend" and review the following resources as you craft a message to your legislators!
