Women's Advocacy Day: May 19

Hundreds of messages were sent to the legislature in support of "What's at Stake for Women" in the short session. You can still participate! It's not too late to call or write to your legislators, and be sure to sign up for the NCWU alerts mailing list to get announcements of when key votes are pending.

March for Women's Lives: Apr. 25

Awesome! See the MarchForWomen.org summary and articles at www.nytimes.com, www.womensenews.com and other places on the 'net. The story in the Tacoma (WA) Tribune, has some good quotes from NC (go figure). In particular see:

NCWU 2003 Report Card Released

With hard work from representatives from many NCWU member organizations, a summary of the 2003 North Carolina legislative session is now ready.

Other

On February 23, 2004, the NC Women United membership voted unanimously at its regular membership meeting to endorse the "Right to Health Care" legislation (HB 1098) advanced by the North Carolina Committee to Defend Health Care and sponsored by Representatives Verla Insko, Thomas Wright, Martha Alexander, Paul Luebke, and Jennifer Weiss. This legislation would amend the NC constitution to recognize the right of all North Carolinians to health care. If passed by the NC General Assembly and accepted as a constitutional amendment by voters, this legislation would give the sate a finite period of time to adopt and implement a plan that enalbes all residents of the state to obtain appropriate health care on a regular basis.
