2006 Women's Agenda Assemblies

Overview

Since 1988, advocates in North Carolina have banded together in each even year to share information on public policy issues apt to come before the next session of the General Assembly. Their efforts have resulted in a "Draft Women's Agenda" published in late summer as an educational tool.

These issues are then discussed at "Women's Agenda Assemblies" across the state, and the participants in those discussions are invited to share their conclusions at Women's Advocacy Day during the Legislature's long session.

The Agenda Assemblies across the state have shared their tips and tools for hosting a successful event and getting leverage from it.
Summary of the Draft Agenda nes
This two page "cheat sheet" may be useful for those who haven't had time to absorb all of the papers from the Draft Agenda.
Draft Women's Agenda
This collection of fourteen issue papers is the discussion document that will be used at the Agenda Assemblies. While attendees are welcome to bring up other issues in the discussion, all are encouraged to read this document carefully for background information.
[The current version is 9/12/06. The only change from the current 10/30 version is in the last page where the NCWU address appears: it should be Raleigh, not Elon. None of the papers have changed.]

This has the details you need to host an assembly in your community, from planning tips to sample press releases. If you have any questions, please contact info@ncwu.org or call 866-518-7657. We are particularly interested in providing assistance to those who are "first time" sponsors of Assemblies.

Coordinators e-mail support list
Send a message to info@ncwu.org to subscribe to this list if you are coordinating an Agenda Assembly. This will be used for announcements about NCWU support for the events and can also be used to share information about sample press releases, fliers, etc.
Please register your Assembly!
Please use our form to register information about your assembly. That info will then be used to update the page with locations and dates.
Please report about your Assembly!
We can post the results of your votes here -- see the form in the Agenda Building Book to report those. We also ask that you collect the contact information for the attendees. Use the commitment card, a sign in sheet like the sample worksheet posted here, or your own method. Please do return the information to info@ncwu.org so we can notify the attendees about Advocacy Day.
