Paige Johnson was unable to attend. Nancy Shoemaker presided until Jennifer Bumgarner arrived and assumed the chair.
Discussion of Women's Advocacy Day: March 30
There was a discussion of the agenda for the day with a recommendation to start no later than 9:30 with lobbying opportunites from 10:30 - noon. Registration will be 8:30 - 9:30. We have the auditorium from 7:30 to noon.
The planning committee will have its next meeting on March 9.
Virtual Advocacy is planned for Wilmington, Charlotte and Asheville.
A signup sheet for people to work as guides and at the registration table was passed around.
Updates on Women's Agenda Assemblies
Durham is scheduled for March 12 and Cumberland County will be March 24th or 22nd in the evening. Thirteen have been completed.
Governance Committee
Arlene McKay distributed a handout describing the NCWU positions up for election at this year's annual meeting on May 23. [Note handout had the date of May 25. That is incorrect.] See www.ncwu.org/governance for details.
Announcements
Anne Mackie will be going to Asheville the first week in March to speak to a group about NC Women United.
Melissa Reed reported on the EC in the ER project - press conference scheduled for March 1.
Natalie Fixmer reported on a rally at the Wake County Courthouse on the issue of disenfranchising voters who voted outside their correct precincts.
Ian Palmquist announced two Lobby Days - March 15 and April 15.
Polly Williams raised questions on how NCWU could endorse an issue. This was referred to the Executive Committee to resolve with the Policy Council.
Arlene McKay reported on BPW's interest in the Pay Equity study.
Beth Messersmith distributed the income tax form check off slips.
