AAUW Public Policy listserv. It gives an easy approach to voicing your
important support of CEDAW on behalf of America's women! Please review
and act as you choose.
As you may have heard, Senators Biden and Boxer are planning to announce hearings for the Treaty for the Rights of Women or CEDAW - the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women. The hearings are likely to be held in mid-June. Word is quickly spreading among right-wing groups and phone calls are coming into the White House against the Treaty. President Bush has not yet made a decision on their position; the next two weeks are critical. They need to hear from supporters as a balance to the opposition targeting the White House comment line. Given what Mrs. Bush has been doing on Afghanistan, there is a possibility that the Administration could decide to support - or at least not oppose - ratification of the CEDAW Treaty. Please call the
